The Cherry Blossom Season in Stockholm, Sweden
Spring is slowly starting here in Stockholm, and after a mild winter, we are finally getting some light and warmth! Every year, there is a good sign announcing spring: the cherry blossoms! I am always very excited when the cherry blossom season starts in Stockholm. The city gets so much prettier and especially Kungsträdgården. However, because it is such a popular place, it is very often crowded. So here are 5 tips to enjoy the cherry blossom season in Stockholm!
As you know, this year is a bit special due to you-know-who, so I was expecting the city to be empty. But one afternoon, I went to Kungsträdgården, in the city center, where the cherry blossom is the most spectacular, and to my biggest surprise, the place was packed… Not gonna lie, I was very disappointed as I wanted to take a lot of pictures and thought I’d have the area to myself. After this incident, I thought I’d share my tips to enjoy the cherry blossoms in Stockholm without being in a crowd or disappointed!
It may be cliché or obvious, but let me tell you….! This year, I went for the first time to Kungsträdgården on a Monday, in the middle of the afternoon and despite the corona situation, this place was packed. I went back the next morning. I was there a little before 8 AM, which is not very early, but still – I got the whole place to myself!
There were only a few people on their way to work, but other than that, it was pretty much me and my bike. And the best part of it is that in Sweden, at the time of the year, the sun rises around 5 AM, which means that around 8, it is pretty light, which is great if you want to take nice photos!
Check the weather
It may sound stupid and obvious but, you know what, if your goal is to enjoy a nice walk outside or take beautiful pictures… Well, you may want to check the weather beforehand! Lately, we’ve noticed that early morning, the weather is much nicer than later in the day.
The less-popular places
Of course, Kungsträdgården is the most popular place to see the cherry blossom season in Stockholm. But it is not the only place where you can find the beautiful cherry trees! For instance, Millesgården in Lidingö is a great place to enjoy the cherry blossoms. Millesgården is a museum, with a great view on the sea and not many people! Other than that, why not just walking or cycling around the city?! It is amazing to discover unknown places!
Or walk around if you prefer! I enjoyed the freedom of having my bike and being able to move around faster. Of course, we do walk a lot and lately, I’ve been carrying my camera around, just in case I’d discover a new place or area with the beautiful blossoms!
Choose your angle
Have you ever considered enjoying a view from another place? There are plenty of stores, cafés or restaurants around Kungsträdgården (for instance). And many of them would provide a great view of the area! Maybe it can be good to consider looking for this kind of place in case the main site is too busy?!
