May the holidays feeling starts!

Hello beautiful people!

December finally started and I am beyond excited!! I don’t really like winter, but surprisingly, December is one of my favorite month of the year. And there are several reasons behind this: first, it is holiday season! Second, my birthday is finally coming, and lastly because the city gets soooo pretty!

So for those of you coming to visit Stockholm now, lucky you! The city is super nice with all the decorations and activities organized everywhere! And if you also live here, or more generally in the Nordics, I guess the below aspects will sound quite familiar! So please keep on scrolling down, because I listed a few things below that are just perfect to put you in the Christmas mindset!

The Christmas markets are opened!

Since last weekend all the different Christmas markets in the city have opened. YES! Finally! I love going there, and walk around, get some mulled wine and saffron or cinnamon buns, but also looking at the crafts and other objects made to decorate your house in a super unique and original, yet super cute, way.

So far, I got to go to the Skansen Christmas market (entrance fee – as you get to visit the park at the same time) and the Old Town (Gamla Stan) Christmas market (free entrance). Unfortunately, the Gamla Stan Christmas market is really packed and rather small, which makes the moment hard to fully enjoy. Maybe the best time to go is during the week, during office hours?!

The smell of freshly roasted almonds

It is all over the city and in every Christmas markets. These little kiosk/stands, are selling almonds roasted with sugar, which are the absolute best thing ever! Especially when they are still warm!! It is usually around 30 kr for a bag of these almonds and it is worth every penny of it! (yes, I get enthusiastic when talking about food…)

Christmas trees everywhere!

In every district, next to every apartment buildings and basically everywhere else, the christmas trees are set! To be honest, I was quite surprised by  the very little amount of decorations in the trees, where only a few lights are set with the star on top. I am used to larger and more impressive trees with things all over the tree, with lovely red, green or golden colors. But don’t get me wrong, I still like them! Let me know if you want to know how we got our Christmas tree…!

You can actually count down till your vacations

I love when you can actually see that the winter vacations are getting closer and that there is actually less than 1 month of work left! Oh yes! I love this feeling of holidays, and starting to plan everything about traveling somewhere or just organizing nice activities at home. How about you?

It is officially acceptable to listen to Christmas songs

F-I-N-A-L-L-Y ! As cheesy at it is, I love listening to Christmas songs, it is for sure my favorite background musics when working or doing anything at home! And it brings back the holidays feeling, when turning it on, especially in store or coffee shops!

But Christmas songs are only the part one of this nice festive atmosphere at home, all the decorations, smells of baked gingerbread, millions of candles and this super nice star, usually at the window of house. For me, the star is on top of some shelves, so you can enjoy it from every part of the living room!

The winter menu is back in cafés

I really enjoy the winter editions of my favorite drinks and pastries, made only for the early winter time. With the nice spices everywhere and the smell of it! Everything feel more cosy and warm, even if the weather is not cold enough or snowy enough yet..! And there is also this thing called “Julbord”, which is basically a ‘all you can eat’ buffet, with the traditional christmas recipes from Sweden. I haven’t had the chance to try it yet, but it all looks very good!

I hope you enjoyed this article and that you are in a great mood to start December!
